Saving the Wild Spirit, Not Breaking It
Why Mustangs Make Exceptional Partners
Mustangs are versatile, willing, intelligent, and deeply dependable. Shaped by generations of survival on the open range, they possess a natural sure-footedness, resilience, and awareness that few domestic horses ever have to develop. Every step they take is thoughtful. Every decision is rooted in instinct sharpened by the land.
Their diversity of bloodlines has created horses that are hardy, adaptable, and incredibly intuitive. They learn quickly, read energy well, and respond best to fair, consistent leadership. While they may require patience in the beginning, the partnership that develops is built on trust , not force.
When given time, clarity, and a steady foundation, mustangs become loyal and willing partners capable of excelling in ranch work, trail riding, performance disciplines, and beyond. They are not defined by pedigree papers but by grit, heart, and character.
A mustang does not simply give obedience, they give partnership. And that partnership, once earned, is something truly remarkable.
Why Wild Horses & Burros Are Gathered
Wild horses and burros are managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service to maintain a healthy balance on public lands. When herd populations exceed what the land can sustainably support, gathers are conducted to prevent starvation, dehydration, habitat destruction, and long-term suffering.
While gathers can be difficult to witness, responsible management protects both the animals and the rangeland. Through adoption programs, these horses and burros are given the opportunity to transition into private care, where they can build trust, confidence, and lasting partnerships.
At Whispering Oaks Horsemanship, we work with horses and burros adopted through the BLM and Forest Service to help them make a safe, thoughtful transition into their next chapter.
Get to Know the Trainer
With years of hands-on experience working with both domestic and wild horses, Jessica’s philosophy is simple: trust, patience, and partnership come first. From colt starting and behavior work to gentling wild horses and burros, she has dedicated her career to helping horses and humans build confident, lasting relationships.
"If I kept all the good ones for myself, you wouldn’t get to experience the joy I do. Every horse has a story, and my greatest reward is helping you find your partner in that story."
Her approach focuses on preserving the natural spirit of each horse, while providing clear guidance, consistent handling, and professional training. Jessica also offers consulting for adopters, rescues, and horse owners seeking support with selection, behavior, or transition.
