Mustang Mentorship

Learn the Process. Build the Trust. Experience the Journey.

The Mustang Mentorship program provides a hands-on opportunity to learn how a wild Mustang transitions from untouched to a confident, willing partner.

Participants work alongside Jessica throughout the training process while learning to read equine body language, build trust, establish safe handling, and develop a strong horsemanship foundation.

This is more than watching a horse be trained, it is an opportunity to take an active role in the journey while receiving professional guidance and support.

No payment is required until a Mustang has been selected for the participant.

How the Mentorship Works

Each participant is paired with a Mustang selected by Whispering Oaks Horsemanship based on the participant’s experience, goals, and confidence level.

Participants attend approximately two to three hands-on sessions each week at Whispering Oaks. Jessica continues working with the Mustang between mentorship sessions to ensure the horse receives consistent training and continues progressing safely.

The Mustang remains on-site throughout the program, allowing participants to learn in a supervised environment with professional support.

During the mentorship, participants may learn:

  • Reading equine body language

  • Building trust with an untouched Mustang

  • Safe approach and retreat

  • Introducing touch

  • Haltering and leading

  • Yielding to pressure

  • Ground manners and personal-space boundaries

  • Grooming and basic handling

  • Desensitization and confidence-building exercises

Program Investment — $300 per month

No payment begins until a Mustang has been selected and the participant is ready to start.

Where the Journey Can Lead

The Mustang Mentorship is designed to provide meaningful hands-on education without requiring the participant to immediately own a horse.

As the partnership develops, participants may be given the opportunity to purchase the Mustang they have been working with for $500.

There is no obligation to purchase. If the participant chooses not to buy the Mustang, the horse may continue through Whispering Oaks Horsemanship’s training and placement program.

Participants who purchase their Mustang may continue professional training at the discounted rate of $800 per month, allowing the horse and handler to keep progressing with guidance and support.

Every journey will look different. The goal is to help both the participant and Mustang build confidence, develop practical skills, and create a safe foundation for whatever comes next.

Who This Program Is For

The Mustang Mentorship may be a good fit for individuals who:

  • Want to learn about wild Mustang gentling and training

  • Are interested in hands-on horsemanship beyond traditional riding lessons

  • Can attend approximately two to three sessions each week

  • Are patient, dependable, and willing to follow safety instructions

  • Understand that every Mustang progresses at its own pace

  • Want professional guidance while developing their handling skills

  • May eventually be interested in purchasing and continuing with their Mustang

Previous Mustang experience is not required. However, participants must be comfortable learning around large animals, remain open to instruction, and respect all safety requirements.

This is a hands-on educational program, not a guarantee that a Mustang will reach a specific training milestone within a set period. Riding is not guaranteed and will only be introduced when the horse and participant are safely prepared.

Availability is limited so each participant and Mustang can receive individualized attention.
